A Word About Funerals

Greetings Dear Reader,

In the past few weeks, I've had the duty of performing 2 funerals and I have another one to preside over in the coming days.  To me, the funeral service is a time of closure and consolation to those left behind.  It is also one of the most crucial times to share the Gospel.

When the service is about a believer in Jesus Christ, a point I like to make is that the decedent is now enjoying the fruits of trusting in Christ for their salvation.  All the trials and tribulations they've endured pale in comparison to the reward they are now basking in.

When the service is for a person who didn't place their trust in Jesus Christ, my work is much harder.  Its hard news to share when folks believe their loved one is now "in a better place", but the truth the Bible tells us is that there is only one way to the Father.  That way is accepting Jesus Christ as Lord of their life.  Not our works, not our generosity, not simply being better than someone else.  There is no better place for the one who chose not to trust in Christ, for all of eternity they will be in torment in hell.

I remind you dear reader, I am not the judge of a person's final resting place and I can't send anyone to heaven or hell.  Its up to each of us to choose. That is why I preach the Gospel.  If you are still breathing and have heard the Gospel preached and not yet surrendered your life to the Lord, friend you are putting the most grievous burden on your loved ones when you pass.  Don't put off the decision for "a better day".  Today is the day of salvation!  You can be saved!  Jesus died and God raised Him from the dead to prove to us that death has no power over a believer.

Do you fear death?

Do you know for certain where you'll be after you die?  If you said heaven, what would be the reason why you were to be allowed into Heaven?  If you haven't applied the righteousness of Christ to your sinful life, the Bible tells us that Hell is the destination for your soul.  I don't want that for you!  God doesn't either!  The Bible tells us that He is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.  It is up to you to simply decide to follow Jesus.  Or not...and you need to know that this choice to not follow Jesus leads to an eternity in hell.  Whether you believe it or not, this is the reality of eternity.

If you want to know more and desire a saving relationship with Jesus Christ, come see me at Dahlgren Baptist!  I would love the opportunity to help you discover the only key to Eternal Life that is in Christ Jesus!  If you already have a home church, call your pastor today!  Don't put it off!

Heaven is real and I want to see you there!

May God richly bless you always!
