Joy to the World...or not?

Merry Christmas to you all!

As we now enter December, my thoughts return to a favorite Christmas Hymn, "Joy to the World".

The world is supposed to rejoice because their Savior has been given to them.  Not earned, not rewarded but given freely.  The Greatest Gift!  But sadly, there are many who have little reverence for the gift of salvation and the great sacrifice Jesus paid for all mankind.  They're overburdened with the cost of Christmas but fail to see the cost God paid for all our sins.  It is time we believers start being joyful about our Salvation and also our blessings!  God not only rescued us from the punishment our sins have earned us, He has given us great blessings like others we can share our time with.  Church family, co-workers, neighbors and friends are all blessings we sometimes fail to appreciate.  Share with them the love of Jesus.  Oh the name of Jesus! Remember that Scripture tells us that another name for Jesus is Emanuel which translates to "God With Us".  God in the flesh came to be born of a virgin, live like any other man, face all the temptations and worries everyone goes through and yet not sin.  He experienced pain, hunger, anguish and fear yet NOTHING stopped Him from fulfilling His calling to be the sinless, perfect sacrifice for our sins.

As we celebrate the time of His birth, could I challenege you to actually read the Christmas Story {Luke 2} to your family this year?  Find the blessing in God's Word that YOU have reason to be joyful!  God gave His only Son for You!  Even while we were sinners, Christ died for us.  We don't deserve Salvation but God loves us so much He gave us the opportunity to be saved.  Your best gift this year didn't cost you a nickle, but it cost God His Only Begotten Son.

Because God raised up Jesus from the dead on the 3rd day, we who believe and trust in Him will also be raised from death to life forever!  Now that is a reason to be joyful!

JOY TO THE WORLD!  THE LORD IS COME!  Let Earth receive her King.  Let every heart prepare Him room.  And Heaven and nature sing, and Heaven and nature sing, and Heaven and Heaven and nature sing!
